When we first laid eyes on Banyan Tree Mayakoba we knew it was something different. It had a special Zen-like quality, not just at the spa (which is otherworldly, by the way) but in every inch of the property, which seems to be brimming with good Karma.

We were enamored by the open white space of MK Blue, Banyan Tree’s beach side palapa that is perfectly tucked into the jungle. In our minds there isn’t a more perfect destination reception location.

Tec Petaja seemed to command the ocean and skies, blending their dreamlike shades of lavender, blue and aqua, capturing the aura of luxury and serenity that is Banyan Tree Mayakoba.

About El Pueblito | Banyon Tree Mayakoba

When we first laid eyes on Banyan Tree Mayakoba we knew it was something different. It had a special Zen-like quality, not just at the spa (which is otherworldly, by the way) but in every inch of the property, which seems to be brimming with good Karma. When we had the opportunity to design this beautiful day we felt especially blessed by the universe. Given the natural beauty in Riviera Maya, we set out to strike the same balance between nature and luxury that Banyan Tree does so effortlessly. We started by calling Tec Petaja. His work is redefining photography and his approach to destination weddings is truly an art. Next, we called Tara LaTour, whose dresses embody femininity with soft, natural textures. With those two of our major artist crushes on board, it was time to start designing.

The best place, hands-down, to begin building a beautiful wedding in Riviera Maya is Archive Mexico. Of course we’re partial, but we can’t help but love Archive’s unique collection of furniture and accessories, which range from vintage to organic to modern. We were also excited to partner with one of our favorite local florists, Moni Junco, who helped create this wild yet elegant tropical vibe.

Our ceremony design took place in El Pueblito, the Corazon of the Mayakoba, a chapel built in the authentic colonial Mexican style. Inside the chapel, untamed greens framed the aisle, leading to aisle of aglow with dozens of candles in brass candlesticks and glass hurricanes.

We placed a trio of rustic cocktail tables with gold hurricanes in the grand stone courtyard, which we feel is an ideal spot for guests to mingle after the I Do’s.

We were enamored by the open white space of MK Blue, Banyan Tree’s beach side palapa that is perfectly tucked into the jungle. In our minds there isn’t a more perfect destination reception location. High thatched ceilings and white beams frame the lush tropical greenery just outside. For dining, we envisioned a space drenched in botanicals to parallel the surrounding emerald jungle. We started with a rustic wood table with beautiful detailed legs, then layered white china, cut crystal plates, brass flatware and gold-rimmed goblets, all from Archive Mexico. We then topped the tables with mirrored runners loaded with clear bottles, and filled them with glossy green tropical leaves.

In keeping with the minimal feel of Banyan Tree, we placed a minimalist lounge on the pristine white sands. Overgrown mangroves served as the backdrop to the neutral furnishings, and we added jungle-patterned pillows and green florals to complete the look. As golden hour set in, our bride strolled the sands in a white tulle Tara LaTour gown. Tec Petaja seemed to command the ocean and skies, blending their dreamlike shades of lavender, blue and aqua, capturing the aura of luxury and serenity that is Banyan Tree Mayakoba.
