We have had the good fortune of getting to know Tulum intimately while designing over the past couple of years.  It takes a special type of couple to appreciate the “alternative luxuries” Tulum has to offer.  You won’t find the palatial all-inclusive resorts of Riviera Maya, but you will find tranquility and privacy that cannot be matched; along with white sand beaches and aqua Caribbean water, set against an undeveloped tropical backdrop.  Not to mention the town is alive with multi-cultural restaurants, all focused on healthy and delicious cuisine.  Because of this, forward-thinking couples are discovering Tulum and finding it to be their perfect destination wedding location.  Taylea and Rob of Atlanta, Georgia were one of those couples, seeking us out to help them navigate Tulum and plan their wedding weekend.

Taylea’s vision for her wedding was to feel modern and luxurious, yet still a tropical experience.  She leaned toward soft colors like those from a sunset reflected on the water.  We couldn’t have been more inspired!  We chose watercolor blushes, pinks, slate gray and aqua, with a modern balance of clean white and luxe gold.  With this color palate as our design base, we drew further inspiration from the pure beauty of Tulum, the venue’s minimalistic architecture, and the lush tropical foliage.

The ceremony was held on the beaches of Casa Violeta.  We designed the ceremony with romantic tufted furniture for seating, facing a grand canopy draped with vintage lace and crochet and swagged with a thick garland of blush and pink roses.

The reception followed at Sanara, one of our favorite modern boutique hotels in Tulum. On the open air-patio, we placed luxe lounges for guests to sit and enjoy the ocean view.  We continued the modern and soft feel of the day with geometric poufs, woven chairs and French linen tufted sofas.

The table-scape boasted vintage brass candlesticks and blush glassware.  As always, we enjoyed custom making a few touches ourselves, including delicate watercolor dyed runners and gold-dipped marble table numbers.  Soft blush and pink florals topped off the look, and every space was awash with candlelight.

Destination weddings are an intoxicating mix of escape, adventure and romance; so in design, our goal is always to create an intimate and unforgettable experience…  everything about Taylea and Rob’s wedding fulfilled just that, and gave them a perfect setting to be closely surrounded by friends and family, enjoying the serene yet exciting atmosphere of Tulum, Mexico.

Alisa and Greg reached out to us two years ago and we were immediately drawn to their earthiness and energy.  The couple wanted to throw a colorful Mexican fiesta filled with color, yet still wanted their big day to be an elegant and romantic event to remember.  This can be a challenge, but it was just our kind of challenge!  After searching, the couple was excited to choose Serra Plaza in San Juan Capistrano as their setting.  With San Juan’s history deeply rooted in Mexican culture and cuisine, and Serra Plaza’s Spanish-style stone architecture, we thought this was an ideal canvas to work with.

As event designers, we have had the good fortune to attend many real fiestas throughout Mexico, so our vision was to create a truly authentic celebration, but of course with a romantic twist.  To create that old-world feeling, we started by bringing in warm wooden tables, rustic mixed chairs from Archive Rentals.  Next, color!  Our inspiration for color palette came from Santiago and Mayan cultures: Rich purple blooms, vibrant corals and deep ocean teal.

We set the tables with this carefully chosen spectrum of linens from La Tavola, then added vibrant glassware and tabletop from Archive Rentals.  We finished the look with bright, lush florals from Krista Jon, bringing the colors together perfectly.  We lit the intimate tree-lined courtyard with a combination of string lights, chandeliers, and of course candlelight.

During the party, guests relaxed in lounge vignettes comprised of tufted sofas, colorful rugs, rustic coffee tables and soft poufs and pillows, all from Archive Rentals.  Wine barrels, wood crates and colorful glass cake stands created a unique one-of-a-kind dessert display, which is always a guest favorite.  The caterer, Sundried Tomato, created a delicious authentic Mexican meal, and planner Donna Urban made sure the events of the night went seamlessly.

Alisa and Greg were radiant as they dined in the glow of candles, followed by dancing with their friends and family to mariachi and DJ music.  The air was festive and filled with romance as everyone celebrated long into the night.  Alisa and Greg’s wedding came together to be the truly the vibrant Mexican fiesta they had wanted, yet with romance they could have hoped for.  Mucho amour para Alisa and Greg!

When Kenzie and Collin began wedding planning, they wondered if it was possible for a “Sophisticated Hippie” bride and a “California Cowboy” groom find a wedding style that represents them both? This wedding proves that it is not only possible, but that it can be done with true class and style.

As a perk, the bride and groom had the privilege of getting married at Kenzie’s family’s charming hotel, the Estancia La Jolla Resort. As a next step, the couple hired event designers Krista and Regina of Crosby + Jon Design, who were excited for the challenge and set out to creatively combine boho chic with a country western twist.

For starters, the couple chose to have a garden ceremony in Estancia’s authentic Spanish courtyard.  Over 200 guests filled rows of mixed rustic farm chairs from Archive Rentals.

The couple said their vows beneath a romantic custom teepee, trimmed with billowing lace and trailing botanicals in the couple’s color palette of plum, mustard yellow, apricot and deep coral… vibrant hues that were woven throughout the entire event.

As the ceremony commenced, guests strolled to an indoor/outdoor reception area where they signed unique guest books upon entry: a white guitar (to later hang in their home) and an oversized wine vessel, custom made by the Bride’s family winery.  Bluegrass music set a celebratory tone as family and friends greeted the newlyweds with signature cocktails in hand: a whiskey mule inspired by Colin and a vodka pink lemonade spritzer by Kenzie.

As guests made their way to the ballroom for dinner, the bohemian vibes continued. The designers from Crosby+Jon decided to “bring the outdoors in” and filled the ballroom with live trees; strung market lights; and constructed wooden pergolas over the head table.  The trees, lights and pergolas not only helped give space an outdoor feel, but also helped a vast room feel like a cozy, intimate space.

Rustic wooden tables were styled with colorful Southwestern patterned runners, copper charges, and glistening amber and amethyst goblets. The real stars of the table were floral centerpieces featuring big lush blooms and a bounty of seasonal harvest picks including squash, eggplant and pumpkins.  After a traditional cake cutting, the guests were treated to an impressive feast of desserts displayed in farm crates.

From start to finish, the guests enjoyed a relaxed yet sophisticated celebration, which genuinely reflected both of the couple’s personalities, making this night a true wedding style success.
